Our little baby boy, who is arriving on May 10th, will be sharing our bedroom with us for the first few months of his life. We rearranged the furniture in our bedroom, which looked like this previously, and gave a whole wall of our room as a ‘nursery’.

With only 10 more days until baby gets here, my mind keeps going over things I might need, things baby needs, things to do before baby gets here…. And I realize there’s not much more to do than wait….

It’s truly a test of patience!

Consider this your Pregnancy Survival Handbook. I sure wish I had one the first time around – and no, baby books do not help explain what a new and soon-to-be mother really needs. Every pregnancy is different, every woman is different, and any little bit of advice that can make you feel comfortable in your skin definitely helps!

1. Maternity Tops Maternity tops are essential, especially further along in your pregnancy, or if you start showing early and your shirts no longer fit. You may find that your breasts have expanded at an alarming rate, but that’s certainly no reason to start wearing peasant tops all the time. Flowy shirts and baby dolls have never been quite my thing, although they do look good on some women, they never really flattered me all that well. This pregnancy I stuck to tops from Isabella Oliver and Seraphine, fitted tops paired with non-maternity cardigans are actually quite flattering.

I wholly realise that horizontal stripes don’t flatter burgeoning bellies and wide hips – but it was one of the only clean tops that covers my bum when I wear leggings, so there you have it. I’ve almost officially given up. I’ve realised that although I own quite a few sexy maternity dresses, there comes a point where you no longer feel sexy. Instead you start feeling what you resemble, which is a bloated whale of a mess. See my face? How big is it? I promise I haven’t stuffed cotton balls in my cheeks, but there they are. In all their puffy glory.

For a split second I considered sculpting my cheekbones out to mimic Victoria Beckham’s hollowed-out look – but then I remembered that the rest of me would still be in the picture. HA. And the only mirror in my house big enough to take a picture of me is in the bathroom. If I was too lazy to clean out the toys from the tub, I highly doubt I’d be in such high spirits as to ‘hollow’ out my cheeks and suck in that ginormous belly.

I’ve received my c-section date: May 10th, 2012!

I’m sure you’ve assumed the worst by now. I probably would have, too. I get very annoyed and impatient at some of my favourite bloggers who take unannounced breaks and disappear off the planet for an unvaried amount of time. But the real truth is that in between watching good television (New Girl, True Blood) and bad television (Real Housewives of Vancouver), and sleeping and complaining about my many symptoms of pregnancy – there really wasn’t much to say.

I’ve been busy, that’s true. I’ve put together the crib and the dresser, both from Oeuf, which has its’ own story to tell and I’ll post the pictures soon. Our master bedroom is ready for the baby, now that one wall has been turned into a “nursery”. I feel quite prepared for this little boy to arrive in the world, I think the only thing missing on our list in a safety monitor – but there’s honestly two-hundred-and-two different monitors (from video, to sleep monitoring, to digital) to choose from, I think I’ll just take a deep breath, walk into our local Walmart and just buy something that’s not ridiculously priced. I also need to get a Diaper Genie (and no, SATC fans, it’s not actually a person who comes in to change the baby and take dirty diapers away), but that’s something else that I’m choosing not to stress over.

I’ve also been working (from home), nesting in the extremes, planning our house build, and attempting to still make dinners and ensure laundry is clean on top of all that. Women, we definitely rule the world.

But really, truly, everything is fine and dandy over here. I’m 35 weeks pregnant and definitely feeling it – as soon as I have more time (!) I will update you all with some pictures and more info – but for now, what have you been up to? My Google Reader has 1000+ unread items – which I will clearly be marking as read in order to save more time. Update me with your life! How are YOU doing? What’s fabulous and new?
