Tattoo Poll!

I want to get a tattoo on my wrists. I won’t reveal what I’m getting, but just imagine it’s a phrase that goes along both wrists. Such as:

(to be or)    (not to be)

The first part on the left wrist, the second part on the right.

Now, should the tattoo be facing me? Or facing the other way? Like upside down so *I* can’t read it, or should *I* be able to read it?

Victoria Beckham’s tattoo is done so the world can read it, but if she held it up to herself it would be upside down.

Whereas this random tattoo I found on Google is done so the person with the tattoo can read it, but the world can’t. I’m leaning more towards this way, but I’ve seen tattoos done where it’s a phrase and it’s done the opposite way (the Beckham way, shall we say?).

What do you think?

1. The Beckham Way? (Upside down)

2. The Love Way? (Right side up)

How do you think it should be done?

xoxo

  • I kind of like the love way…if people want to see you could just turn around and hold your wrists over your head :D

I definitely vote for #2. The other way feels weird. Like when people wear their rings backwards. Or, you can be crazy and do it lengthwise. I got my tattoo yesterday (it's a word) and that's what I did.

  • I guess it depends what it says. My wrist is more a statement to the world so it's the Beckham way. Is the tattoo message TO you, or ABOUT you. That make's the difference.

I would say the Beckham way. I am struggling with this idea of getting a wrist tattoo myself. If you get yours I'd love to see it! I love the continuing from wrist to wrist idea as well!

  • I agree, it's definitely all about what you want it to say. If it's something you want to project to the world, then outward; if it's an internal sort of meaningful reminder, then facing in. I'm excited for you!! :)

  • or do something completely different, quirky, and unique … vertically rather than horizontal so you AND others can read it correctly :-) ~bobocela

  • I love the comments about picking based on the message!
I think if I was getting it, I would have them facing out no matter what though :) You will always know what it says, and having it face out seems like it would look aligned 'correctly' more of the time. Also, people are grabby and weird about tattoos, and if it faces out they won't swing around beside you to read it lol

  • The love way. Tattoos usually have more meaning for the person getting it. Oh, and that way its a great ice breaker/talking piece when other people want to read it.

  • The love way. It would bother me if I couldn't properly read my own wrist tattoo lol. It also serves as a great talking piece/ice breaker when people ask you to read it.

The Love way, you're the one who has to see it the most, and I assume you're doing it for you and not for others. And that way it's also written from Left to Right

  • I agree with Lauren. Place the tattoo according to who the message is to.

  • I personally like a tattoo so I can read it but it does make it awkward to twist your arm all sorts of ways so the other person can read it. I did meet a girl who had a phrase on her wrist the “Beckham” way and I thought it was weird she would place it that way but made sense when I went to read it.

I have a tattoo on each wrist but I didn't have to worry about placement. On my left wrist are two stars and the one on my right is the letter “G” but it's placed more on the left side of my wrist.

I like how the love way looks and feels but from a practical standpoint it probably makes sense to do it the Beckham way. People are curious about tattoos – the Beckham way is easier to read for other people and means that they won't get all up in your space just to read your tattoo.

Most people I know get it done the “love” way, because it's easy to just twist your forearm so the person can read it if they really want to, but I guess it depends on what you want it to say (hint hint, tell me hehe).

    the love way up…

    enjoy the ink

    [Reply]

  • I am partial to be able to read it to yourself… at the end of the day I think getting an ink on your body is for the person who has to look at it for as long as they have their body. I got one on the side of my wrist… supposedly the one right on the wrist across the bottom of the hand is far the most painful tattoo you can get other than the ankle.

So what will the Tattoo read? Is it an image or a word, letters or symbols?

I say get it the ” love ” way. A tattoo is a personal thing – i would assume you are getting it for ” you “, so it makes sense that you have it done so you can see it properly. Especially if its going to be a symbol/picture instead of words…. you'll have explain what it means anyway, so it wont matter if its facing others instead of you.

  • The love way…all the way. You get a tattoo for you..so you should be the one that can read the words.

  • hmm…i think facing out, if it's a phrase you want people to read. just make sure to reverse it! { start on your RIGHT wrist, and end on your left.} so when your arms are relaxed or held out in front of you, it's in order. i think.
good luck, and can't wait to see pics!

Well I've never seen it the David Beckham way before but it's kind of cool.
I say go for what YOU like.
It seems like you'd rather read the tattoo yourself than the rest of the world, but maybe not? Can't wait to see it either way!

    [Reply]

  • Yes I would! I was just wondering what the general consensus would be and it's basically split!

I think the “love” way. I get the appeal of the other way but I know I would want to read it myself all the time. And, if someone else wanted to you can just put your arm up, palm out, like you were going to rub your eye or fix your hair and they can read it. That's not *super* awkward, only a little bit maybe :)
Can't wait to see it! (at least I hope we get to!!)

I think I like the “Love” way….especially if it was something that I wanted to remind myself of everyday…lets just say, if I was to actually commit to putting something permanently on my body, I would like to be able to read it. The rest of the world can keep guessing :)

I love both their tattoos for sure. For me, I have two – both on my wrists. I have “let it be” on my left wrist and “5 6 30″ in Roman numerals on my right wrist. When I got them, I wanted them facing me. Both of them are for personal reasons and so that's why they are facing me. I had wanted one since I was 15 years old and got two 6 months apart last year.

It all depends, I mean are they more of a personal thing for just you or you don't care that the world sees it?

Think about it and good luck deciding!
