Starstruck. Or not. (it’s a Twilight post)
When it comes to celebrities I don’t get too star struck. I know you don’t believe me, but I kind of shrug my shoulders and admire their presence and get over it. I met Hayden Christensen and Rachel Bilson, as well as Dallas Green (City & Colour/Alexisonfire) and his now wife Leah Miller, at the store I used to work at. It’s always fun to see people in person – Rachel is super short with a huge bum and Hayden had bad, bad skin. I won tickets for a meet-and-greet with Gavin Rossdale a few years back and ended up giving them away because I was too concerned with how the conversation would go. As in: “I loved you when I was 13, but at 23 I don’t listen to your music anymore…”
All celebrities are the same, they have two moods. Mood 1: Happy to see fans and talk to them. Mood 2: They don’t want to be bothered.
I admit when I met Brandon Flowers I was a little over-excited. And tipsy. And I grabbed him and took a pic with him and lectured him on not making a “dumb face” in the picture. The rest of his band were nice, but it was Mr Flowers who got me a little excited. Other than that, I honestly don’t get starstruck.
In Toronto we saw Mickey Rourke, he was a bit strange and had a servant who carried his dog behind him. J & I meet DJs and bands all the time, but as interesting or famous as they are, I never turn into that screaming teenage girl everyone abhors.
Until last night.
Twilight: Breaking Dawn is currently being filmed in my town for about a month. They arrived while I was on my Portland/Seattle trip and came back to find tons of celeb sightings in my small little neighborhood. It’s very easy to find out where the celebs are since everyone in Squamish has each other on Facebook, and when one person finds out where they hang out, EVERYONE knows.
I quickly learnt Taylor Lautner’s favourite dinner spot and took Princess & myself to go see him. He arrived and I was expecting to go a little nuts, but I didn’t at all. I guess 19-year old boys don’t really do much for me. I got a picture with him because I know my sis and mom would’ve killed me if I didn’t. That was two days ago.
Yesterday Princess and I took a hike and found a film set. We were quickly shooed away and we were told they were filming a “Rock Climbing Documentary”. With no climbing gear or hooks. Just crazy stunt machines. Yaaaaok.
And then last night J took me to the restaurant attached to the hotel they rented out. They had a cast party there the previous night and we thought, why not go and see if they come back? Okay: J didn’t want to see them, ONLY me, but he’s a nice boyfriend so he took me so I would stop talking about Twilight all the time.
We arrived at the restaurant. There were two tables of fans (you can tell the fans from the crew immediately! they are always looking around to see if a star walks in!) and a couple tables of movie crews. I was a tad disappointed but assured myself that the night was still young.
Not long after Elizabeth Reaser (Esme) and Peter Facinelli (Carlisle) both walked in and sat directly behind us. Now try to explain to a non-Twilighter who they are. The best I did was remind J that Peter was in Can’t Hardly Wait as the guy who broke up with Jennifer Love Hewitt. Mike Dexter!
A bunch of other people came in after, many were the new vampires including a stunning tall dark-skinned girl. I believe Ashley Greene was in the crowd but it’s hard to tell – so many super pretty thin girls were wearing these FUG-me glasses (like this) so you couldn’t even see their faces properly.
But then, someone walked in who actually made my heart stop. Freaking Jackson Rathbone. Jasper. I realise in the movie he looks sorta ugly (except the scene in Eclipe where he’s talking to Bella about his past, and in the actual flashback). The boy is as good looking in real life as in pictures. He looks like a cute little rock star. J got jealous. Ha!
By 11 pm security was trying to get every fan out of there. We paid our bill and finished our drinks. And who would appear but Rob & Kristen. Again, not a crazy amazing sighting to me, but it was interesting. Kristen was wearing a paper moustache. She was short and thin and surprisingly pretty. Rob was tall and dressed like a bum with a hood over his head, but he was joking around with someone and it was cute seeing him relaxed.
But then again, only Jackson made me want a picture. Which I almost got if it weren’t for the annoying security insisting I leave before I start “bothering” people.
The whole experience was pretty cool. But I didn’t get overly starstruck.
Do you get starstruck? Have you met anyone who made you stop in your tracks or do you play it cool?
xoxo

ps. Thanks for letting me get all this dorky Twilight stuff out. I promise I will never mention it again. HA!
pps. And OMG this made me laugh out loud!!
ppps. If you leave a comment asking for more details I will delete it. If you have questions, email me. And please realize I live in a town of 15,000 people, everyone knows everything, we all know what car they drive, where they are staying, where they are filming, where they shop, where they eat. But I am obviously not giving out names or addresses, so please don’t ask.

March 30, 2011 at (811 days ago)hi! I just came across your blog a couple of weeks ago (you were on the blog rolls of a few of the blogs I already follow) and I wanted to let you know that I really enjoyed reading your blog until this post… now I LOVE it! I’m so jealous! I love how you’re so brutally honest about how the celebs are in real life (can’t believe “Summer” has a huge hum!) and that you’re a huge Twilight junkie just like me! Let me just say it again… I’m so freakin’ jealous!

March 30, 2011 at (811 days ago)Hi,
Sounds pretty cool! And very nice that your boyfriend went along with you too. Did he even remember Mike Dexter? I can’t look at Peter Facinelli without thinking about that character. Um I have to ask what was up with the big glasses inside? I think the better disguise sounds like the paper mustache. What in the world? Like was it a mask? Or just a piece of paper cut out and stuck on her lip? That kind of makes me like her more.
I also agree that you must live in a gorgeous area!

March 30, 2011 at (811 days ago)I just emailed you and you replied but I can’t access gmail right now. I wanted to say “thank you” for responding so quickly! I think you’re very lucky for seeing such awesome people. You say that of course they’re together – this makes me happy. Glad the moustache was a joke!
Great blog!

March 30, 2011 at (811 days ago)You -neeeed- to get a picture with Jackson. Like, NEEEED to haha. Silly bouncers being all uptight.
I’ll admit, I do get a bit starstruck – mostly it was as a teen with The All-American Rejects, but when I met them for the fourth time I was finally over it lol. Aside from that, I’ve never really met anyone famous so I haven’t really had any opportunities to be starstruck. But if I ever meet MUSE or Mumford & Sons I’d just be like, “I love your music. Perform at my wedding.” Bwahahahaheheheehahhaha.

March 30, 2011 at (811 days ago)That was the day before I went. That’s why I went to that restaurant the following night because I wanted to see if they would be there again

March 30, 2011 at (811 days ago)Lovely site…. How I wish I can also meet some celebrities in the near future. I don’t know what I will do. LOL. But something is bothering me about this post you said in another blog you got a picture with Jackson outside the restaurant with your friend, but in this post you said “almost”.
Fab Brunette
March 30, 2011 at (811 days ago)My friend got the picture, there was about 5 girls the other day, and I never posted a blog post about having a pic with Jackson outside the restaurant. I got Taylor and she got Jackson.

March 31, 2011 at (811 days ago)I’m not one to really get starstruck either…but I would probably become a liar if I saw those Twilight celebs. And Jackson I think is the unsung hottie of the bunch. Even a 44 year old gal like myself appreciates his hotness. *wink* But yeah, seeing Rob and Kirsten, I think would have been just a wee bit starstruck. Glad that I follow your blog so I can live vicariously through you.

March 31, 2011 at (811 days ago)WOW. That is all I can say. Wow.
Oh and Jackson Rathbone might be the only good thing about the Twilight movies.

March 31, 2011 at (811 days ago)Awww this is such a fun post! Lol. I think I would be more intrigues than starstruck, you know what I mean? Like I would want to stare at them and watch them, to see what they look like and how they act off the screen. Make sense? That’s so funny that Jasper is the only one that made you a little fluttery. He definitely does look ugly (well not ugly, but super goofy!) in the movies. But I don’t think that’s his fault, I think that’s the make up and hair people, lol. So cool! Thanks for sharing. I can’t help but be a bit of a Twilight nerd myself
Hehehe

March 31, 2011 at (811 days ago)Hey Fab Burnette. I bet you that if Rob Pattinson was in your face giving you his sexy smoldering stare, you would wet your pants. Not star struck, indeed.
Fab Brunette
March 31, 2011 at (811 days ago)Probably not tho. I liked him in Remember Me. He was doing squinty high eyes the whole time.

March 31, 2011 at (810 days ago)How fun!!! You certainly have seen your fair share of celebs! That’s way above average!
I remember as a kid I met the “snapple” lady from all those old snapple commercials in the 90s. That’s my claim to fame. And the teenage on “Touched by an Angel”.
Clearly these are not so exciting. I know a friend who is a make up artist for some big stars and is friends with Rob Pat but I can’t convince her to set me up on a date with a hottie! Shame.
In any case… will we be able to see the photo of you and taylor? that would be fun! Enjoy your month of seeing stars!

April 1, 2011 at (810 days ago)I’m not one to get overly starstruck either…I’ve seen a fair amount of celebrities wandering around Yorkville during the film festival (Halle Berry, Whoopi, Taye Diggs, Wesley Snipes, Meg Ryan). I always find that its more a surreal experience than anything & almost EVERYONE is shorter than I imagined! I do admit that I was a tiny bit starstruck when I saw Dustin Hoffman wandering around Holt’s just because he’s such an icon (and also very tiny! smaller than me!. But, when I met one of my favorite authors for the first time, my legs kind of turned to jelly (even though he’s a 50+ gay man) just because I admire him so much. Clearly I’m a bit of a nerd!

April 12, 2011 at (798 days ago)Was it David Sedaris? I ask because I admire him a lot as a writer, and when I met him at a book signing I had no idea what to say and opened with “this is a really neat desk!” (To be fair, it was covered in author signatures, which IS pretty neat. But I realized how much of a dork I am.)

April 3, 2011 at (808 days ago)I’m so jealous right now! I’d love to see them all, I’m kind of a Twilight geek :$

April 4, 2011 at (806 days ago)I don’t usually get star struck. But seeing James Brown at a post office what pretty effing amazing. I also almost died when I saw Morgan Freeman in Times Square as we were leaving a show. And John Cleese in Stockholm… I guess my favorite sightings have been older men!

April 6, 2011 at (805 days ago)I finally read this famous post… Excuse me as I am smirking at the hysteria of meeting K. Stewart and R.Patz… Never seen the movies, nor read the book, nor do I think I really care too!
But I am with you on the no big deal celebrity thing, maybe it came from working with models on set, but I have been in the presence of Sandra Bullock, Matt Dillon and a huge group of the actors from Crash! Have drank with IceMan from the X-Men series, because I got invited to a Rebecca Romjin party she herself never attended! But living in downtown Toronto makes it easy to spot, I was in a gifting lounge this year while Ryan Philipe’s assistant came in and got stuff and Gene Simmons walked right infront me while I was at the Yorkville Starbucks!
Really the more I see the less I care! LOL

April 9, 2011 at (801 days ago)Wow! You scored in seeing them!
I heard about many sightings and ran into groups of giddy teenage girls who were bragging about getting someone’s autograph, but I never saw anyone! Bummer! I totally would have been star struck and attempting to watch whatever I could from afar!
I love that our little GORGEOUS town scored with this gig!
I am not a huge fan of the whole Twighlight series but I am looking forward to seeing the movie!
