Wanderlust: New York City
I have been suffering from an extreme case of wanderlust these past few months, and now that flying is out of the question for me, it has hit me full force. Come take a trip with me down memory lane…
We started our day off with brunch at Pastis, which I encourage everyone to do just once at least. I devoured a delicious Croque Madame, which is very much a Croque Monsieur but with an egg cracked on top of it, and J ate his favourite form of breakfast, a plate of Eggs Benedict.
There is nothing more touristy or satisfying than doing something you’ve always wanted to do - namely sit on Carrie Bradshaw’s stoop and take a picture of it. Since it is roped off and surrounded by security cameras, I was too fearful of sitting and had J take a quick picture instead.
There is also nothing more touristy than taking a picture of yourself in front of the subway.
I enjoy being a dork.
Doing my best Vanna White on the Brooklyn Bridge. Not only do you get incredible views on this bridge but it counts for exercise!
I am a huge fan of Jean-Georges Vongerichten restaurants and The Mercer Kitchen found in Soho at the Mercer Hotel is another enlightening venture into delicious food and cozy atmosphere.
Another ‘tourist’ thing I tried to do on this trip is go up the Empire State Building. Did you know that the line up during the day is crazy insane? To see a view? So J & I gave up and instead went to the Heartland Brewery at the bottom of the Empire State Building instead. I enjoyed their Berry Champagne Ale and a piece of cheesecake. Very New York, n’est pas?
One “must-do” for us on any trip is to take a trip to the Hard Rock Cafe, not only do they have the most indulgent nachos but I love picking up a shot glass of our trip there.
Before heading back to the Pod Hotel, we picked up some pizza slices and black and white cookies, the quintessential New York cookie.

January 6, 2012 at (530 days ago)For the residents of the building, it’s also a historical building, when groups of over 20 come at a time to your stoop, it must be pretty annoying…

January 18, 2012 at (518 days ago)Hey – was this the post I was looking for??? Thanks for re-posting if it is. I know I mentioned to you that I went to NYC for the first time over Christmas and I had a great time. I love it and I can’t wait to go back. We only stayed in Midtown so I can’t wait to go back and check out Meatpacking and Soho.
